Unfortunately, DJ and I are on opposite sides of the country for the summer. But that doesn’t mean we can’t share our last few coffeeshop experiences with you guys. The good news is that the warm weather makes it finally socially appropriate to drink iced coffee. So, let’s dive back into our coffee adventures from the school year.
I’m excited to be writing this post because Everyman Espresso is one of my favorite spots we’ve visited for the blog. At the location we visited in the East Village, the coffeeshop occupies the lobby of the Classic Stage Company, which provided a less crowded feeling on the inside. Inside was more spacious than most other locations we visited, a feeling which was enhanced by light colored decor and large doors which remained open for the duration of our visit. We set our things down at an open round table and then went up to order our drinks.

DJ order the Cortado from their espresso menu. Now, I wasn’t really sure what this drink was, so let’s divulge into a little coffee lesson.
The cortado is a Spanish beverage usually served in a small glass and is generally considered to be one of the most balanced coffee drinks you can get. It consists of a roughly 50/50 mix of espresso and warm milk that is steamed, but not frothy.
The non-frothed milk art on Everyman’s cortado was impressive, but I’m very easily impressed by those things. DJ did enjoy the drink but did mention that is was rather strong and that she would’ve liked a bit more sweetener.
I’m sure that no one is surprised that the iced coffee in the header photo is mine. Now, Everyman Espresso did not seem to have a lot of flavor syrups, so I kept my order simple: iced coffee with half and half, sweetened with simple syrup. I’ve got to say, I was certainly impressed. I should start taking my coffee simple like that more often, you get a much better idea of the flavor.
For a coffee shop in the city, I would say the prices were reasonable; the cortado was around $4.00 and the iced coffee went for around $3.75.
I’ve got to say, I was really impressed by Everyman Espresso. I thoroughly enjoyed both the coffee and not having to sit essentially on top of another person. Not to mention, the location is just a few steps away from one of my favorite places in the entire city- The Strand bookstore.
Needless to say, I am sure I’ll be back.
Until next time, keep that summer procaffeination in check!
